Creative Access Resource.

In 2020, I worked with The National Museum of Wales to create a piece of art that made an existing artwork in the museum accessible to people with visual impairment.

The artwork that I chose was 'At the Seaside' by Dorothea Sharp. I chose this artwork for the colours, the Impasto technique and the flow of the water and how that was shown through the paint strokes. These elements were translated into a hand-sewn Victorian-inspired pinafore with a pocket that I painted and then embroidered with ribbon that reflects the painting. Inside the pockets are a collection of items you would find in the pocket of a child at the beach. These added a sensory element, with Victorian coins in a floral tapestry clasp purse, sea shells in a lace pouch and pretty pebbles that a child would treasure. This allowed the participants to engage with these objects and gave them the context of the artwork.

The artwork was then presented to a group that visit the museum for visitors to explore.
