As a TA, part of a team in a faith school, Holy Week is a massive part of our year so we encourage our students to engage with these times of reflection and celebration through a creative and immersive exhibition. SLT split into teams to plan these workshop sessions and I was asked by my department head to take the lead on the visual concept and construction of these installations due to my experience with installation art and facilitation.
Shepherds in the Night.
The first year I was tasked to take creative control to bring the Shepherds in the night, to our school. With a limited budget, 5 School days, and roping in some friends and students, I created an installation of the shepherd's camp after they left on their journey to Bethlehem.
Stations of the Cross.
In the second year, we brought the Stations of the Cross into the present day, giving our students a modern context to understand the moments leading up to the crucifixion. Our station was when Simon of Cyrene helped Jesus carry His cross.
The gospel depicts the man who bore the cross for Jesus and was seized and beaten. The context of the George Floyd riots was used so the students understand the story.
